March Du Nain Rouge (MI)
Marche du Nain Rouge, an annual street festival in Detroit, Michigan that features the legendary red imp known as the Nain Rouge, is being held in downtown Detroit on March 22, 2026.
The free event is a mix of a parade, street theater, and costume party. Typical activities include a costume parade where people dress as demons, goblins, witches, and the Nain Rouge itself, theatrical storytelling, music and street celebrations, and an afterparty featuring a DJ and local vendors.
Music starts around 11:30am with the crowd gathering at the Community Stage located at the intersection of Canfield and Second. The parade kicks off at 1pm with Detroit-by-way-of-New-Orleans Gabriel Brass Band. The opening ceremonies conclude with the Nain leading a procession down to the Masonic Temple at 1:30 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to “come with a pan on your head or in full regalia. Bring a washboard and jug band. Wear a costume. Build a human-powered float. Put on a mask, cover your body in biodegradable glitter and sustainably harvested feathers– whatever it takes.”
The afterparty will begin in the Masonic Temple’s Fountain Ballroom starting around 2:30pm and going til 5pm. and will include drinks, vendor tables, and DJs.
These folks don’t mess around. Actually feel bad for the little red imp as the residents take back control of their city. Maybe it’ll bring a few wins for the Tigers too!
