The 2026 Delta Symposium at Arkansas State University is set for April 8-11 featuring the theme “Monsters, Cryptids, and the Monstrous.” This is a four-day academic and cultural conference featuring panels, research presentations, creative works, workshops, and performances. Events are held mainly at the student union and museum, with some off-site activities.

Wednesday (April 8) includes opening sessions with focus on interdisciplinary discussions of monsters and their meanings. It includes a forum with professors, a presentation on “the monstrous as metaphor,” and a creative exhibition of writing and photography.

Thursday (April 9) is packed with panels and research talks on folklore, history, culture, and identity. Topics include earthquakes as “monsters,” ghost stories, racial history, political interpretations, and artistic inspiration. Featured are a hands-on workshop on oral history and an evening reading event at the Bradbury Art Museum.

Friday (April 10) continues with research presentations on folklore, gender, international connections, and cryptids. It includes a keynote lecture on Cherokee storytelling and discussions connecting folklore to film and literature.

Saturday (April 11) wraps up with another oral history workshop held in Dyess, Arkansas. It includes museum exhibits and the Arkansas Roots Music Festival, tying folklore themes to music and culture.

Culture and cryptids, a perfect combination!
